On-going Volunteering Opportunities:
1. The Host Program is looking for individuals over the age of 18, or families who would like to care for a child or young person (up to 18 years) in the volunteer’s own home on a regular basis, usually one weekend or one day per month. Volunteers are screened - consent to a police criminal records check is mandatory - assessed, trained and carefully matched to a particular child. After a period of getting to know one another, short visits commence. Ongoing support is provided. 2. The Recreation Program is looking for younger volunteers who would like to assist adolescents or young adults to access Interchange recreation programs. These groups generally occur on weekends, evenings or school holidays. Small groups participate in community-based activities that are supported by paid workers and volunteers.
About the Organisation:
Interchange Western Region is a not-for-profit, community-managed respite and social support program for families who have a child or young adult with a disability living at home. Disabilities include sensory, physical, intellectual, acquired brain injury, multiple disabilities and developmental delay. The degree of disability experienced by each individual varies.
Other Comments:
A regular commitment is expected. The amount of time and availability of the volunteer is discussed and a mutual decision is reached as to the level of commitment expected. This is regularly reviewed.
