Council's Peak Oil Policy and Peak Oil Action Plan (attached below) describe how Council will continue to deliver community programs and services in spite of global oil price increases. Council has also recently completed a Peak Oil Contingency Plan.

| ‘Peak Oil’ is the point in time when worldwide oil production will start to decline. Oil will not run out at the time of peak production but will become increasingly scarce and expensive. A number of credible researchers and scientists believe the peak in oil production has already happened or will occur within a few years. This will be the first time worldwide oil supply will be unable to meet growing demand.
Achieving continued economic prosperity will become more difficult and will require greater efficiency and innovation at all levels of government and industry.
Oil scarcity has significant implications for Council Services and the Maribyrnong community. Planning for likely high oil prices and reduced supply of oil is essential to avoid the worst consequences and ensure Council services can be provided in a timely and economic manner. | |
| Peak Oil Contingency Plan | | The Contingency Plan (attached below) provides a procedure to secure key Council Services in the face of threats to our oil supply. It uses scenario planning to determine appropriate responses to the threats of potential disruptive oil shocks or a long-term decline in oil supply. | |
