The White Ribbon Day Campaign is the first male-led campaign to end violence against women in the world. The campaign encourages men to take a stand and say that violence, in any form, is never acceptable. White Ribbon Day is held annually on November 25th.
Up to one-half of Australian women will experience physical or sexual violence by a man at some point in their lives, as nationally representative surveys have found.

| In 2009, Maribyrnong City Council will be running a series of activities to raise awareness of White Ribbon Day in the municipality. These include:
1. White Ribbon Day Bookmarks in all library books borrowed in November and December 2. White ribbons and wristbands available for sale in a variety of community centres 3. Stencils on footpaths and sporting clubs “Not Violent, Not Silence” 4. Freeza event with a theme focused on Preventing Violence against Women planned and run by young people for young people 5. Encouraging all men in Maribyrnong to take an oath to 'swear' never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
