Cultures Will Collide at the Opening Weekend Party

Big Backyard is the big bash that celebrates the many cultures and artists who make the west side of Melbourne their home and, for many a home away from home.  Cultures will collide in true Footscray fashion in the Big Backyard, a free event for all staged in the Footscray Mall and Maddern Square on Saturday 21 November, 2009.

Congratulations!

To the Dog Theatre for being awarded the ‘Best Venue – 2009’ from the Melbourne Fringe Festival.  Quite a recognition for one of our local venues from a pool of over 140 venues.  Well done to all involved.

Indigenous Code Launched

NAVA welcomes the announcement by Minister for the Arts Peter Garrett that at their meeting on 9th October, all members of the Cultural Ministers' Council endorsed the Indigenous Australian Art Commercial Code of Conduct. The Code aims to set minimum ethical standards and define terms of trade and rights and responsibilities in the sale and management of Indigenous artworks.

ArtLab

The Inter-Arts Office of the Australia Council for the Arts will support new interdisciplinary research and creative development projects with grants of $75,000. The ArtLab initiative is for rigorous experimentation and collaboration between artists from multiple disciplines to explore new artistic practices. It supports substantial, long-term research and development projects, with an emphasis placed on innovation, risk taking, artistic integrity and the creation of new ideas.

Art Omi International Artists Residency

The Art Omi International Artists Residency is a three-week residency program for visual artists in upstate New York. Art Omi provides artists with a studio, living quarters and meals at no cost to the artists. However, artists are responsible for their travel and art materials. The Residency takes place for three weeks during the month of July. They do not offer residency for visual artists at any other time of the year. Each year, a different critic-in-residence lives on campus with the artists and they lead discussions and make one-on-one studio visits.

Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts is calling for entries to its annual Postcard Show. The Linden Postcard Show is an open entry award exhibition featuring small format contemporary work. The Postcard Show derives its name from the tradition of selecting 6 works to be reproduced and sold as Linden Postcards.
