| A New Vision for the Maribyrnong River | | The Maribyrnong River Valley Project (MRVP) is a regional planning initiative to protect Melbourne’s precious Maribyrnong River for future generations. The project is part of the State Government's Melbourne 2030 Strategy which makes a commitment to reviewing and strengthening policies and planning controls along the Maribyrnong River.
The aim of the project is to establish a long-term vision for the river valley and to develop planning guidelines to ensure its environment, recreation and aesthetic values are protected from increasing development pressures.
The project team consists of representatives from the State Government (Department of Sustainability and Environment & Parks Victoria), the Cities of Maribyrnong, Melbourne, Brimbank, Moonee Valley and Hume, along with Melbourne Water. The project is funded by a grant from the State Government’s Melbourne 2030 Local Government Assistance Fund, with additional funding provided by the cities of Maribyrnong, Melbourne and Brimbank.
The project resources will be used to: | |
 | Hold community workshops and consultation with key stakeholders to develop a shared vision for the Maribyrnong | | Prepare urban design and landscape guidelines for the river valley | | Create a 3D model of the river valley | | Communicate the draft vision and guidelines to the community and other stakeholders through consultation sessions | | Progress other projects as determined by the steering committee |
|
|
