Consultation commenced on the Draft Council Plan 2017-21

The Draft Council Plan 2017-21(PDF, 518KB) is now available for comment. The Plan sets out Council's strategic direction for the next four years.

The Council Plan incorporates the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan, and focuses on improving the physical, social, natural, cultural and economic environments that impact community health

In accordance with Section 125 of the Local Government Act 1989 Council is required to develop a Council Plan and submit a copy to the Minister for Local Government.

A person may make a submission on the Draft Council Plan 2017-21 in accordance with submission details below:

Submissions made in accordance with Section 223 of the Act are not confidential and will be incorporated in full (including all personal information, unless indicated otherwise) in the agenda and minutes of the Council Meeting at which they are considered and will be available on Council’s website as part of the relevant agenda and minutes of the meeting.

Written submissions must be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Maribyrnong City Council, PO Box 58 Footscray 3011, and will be received until 5pm on 25 May 2017.

Written submissions may also be hand delivered to Maribyrnong City Council, Corner Hyde and Napier Streets (61 Napier Street), Footscray 3011 or via email to email@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au

Any person making a submission is entitled to state in the submission that he or she wishes to appear in person or to be represented by a person specified in the submission, at a meeting to be held at Council’s Municipal Offices, Corner Hyde and Napier Streets, Footscray on Tuesday 30 May 2017 commencing at 6.30pm.

Copies of the Proposed Budget 2017/18 including the 2017-2021 Strategic Resource Plan, including information prescribed by Regulation 9 of the Local Government (Planning & Reporting) Regulations 2014, and the Draft Council Plan 2017-21 are available for inspection until 5pm on 25 May 2017, at:

The Council Plan 2013–2017

The Council Plan 2013–2017 guides what we do and how we do it. It expresses our priorities and aspirations over a four-year period in making our community a better place to live, work and play.

Under the Council Plan 2013–2017, our priorities are to:

  • create a well-planned, connected and welcoming city
  • support local businesses and attract investment
  • stimulate employment and improve education and training opportunities
  • plan sustainable bike and pedestrian-friendly transport and traffic management systems
  • promote environmental sustainability
  • ensure transparent, engaging and accountable government.

It is reviewed annually to consider emerging community needs.

Council Plans are developed following Council elections and after extensive community consultation and feedback.

Tracking our progress

Each year, Council defines what activities it will undertake to contribute towards the Council Plan. We report quarterly on our performance against these plans, as well as through our Annual Reports.
