Councillor Support and Expenses

Maribyrnong City Council is classified as a Category 2 Council as determined by the State Government, which provides for an allowance of $76,521 for the Mayor and $24,730 for Councillors.

The Local Government Act 1989 requires Council to adopt and maintain a policy in relation to the reimbursement of expenses, and it is Council's policy to make Councillor expenditure public by reporting to Council quarterly for the following expenses:

  • Child Care/Family Care
  • Conferences, Seminars and Training
  • Individual Memberships
  • Mobile Phone and Tablet (including replacement costs - unless faulty)
  • Events
  • Photocopy Use
  • Travel.

Delegates Reports

Councillor participation in peak associations, local and regional forums and specific issues committees is an important part of effective governance and representation.

As part of their governance and representation obligations, individual Councillors represent Council on a range of committees.  The committees operate outside of the section 86 (of the Local Government Act 1989) Committees established by Council.

The Councillor’s role as a delegate on these committees is to represent the position of Council, and involves reporting back to Council on the issues, or progress of the committees.  A copy of the monthly Delegates' reports is below.
