What is happening?
Maribyrnong City Council, in collaboration with Metro Trains Melbourne, are conducting a traffic study along Anderson Street, Yarraville. We’ll be using cameras affixed to existing light poles and traffic monitors on the ground to gather data. The three study types are:
- Queue surveys
- Turning movement counts
- Origin destination surveys
Why is it happening?
The study is taking place to better understand traffic and transport issues in the area, and the data collected and analysed to identify opportunities for safety improvements to support vehicle and pedestrian movements.
Where is it happening?
Anderson Street, Yarraville. See map above of traffic count surveys.
When is it happening?
The study is due to take one week. It was due to be completed in July 2021, but due to scheduling issues with the contractor and the COVID-19 lockdowns, the study has been postponed. Further information regarding the study dates will be announced shortly.
How does the survey work?
Various survey cameras will be installed on existing light poles at locations along and around Anderson Street, Yarraville, capturing:
- Data that observes vehicle queue lengths at the identified intersections
- Vehicular data to understand traffic origin and destination stations
What happens to the data that is collected?
The data collected will be used to understand the queue build-up at the highlighted intersections as well as the travel patterns of vehicles travelling through this area, and all data will be managed in accordance to the Australian Privacy Principles.
