The Maribyrnong People and Participation Strategy 2021-2026 (MPPS) outlines Council’s approach to enabling, promoting and celebrating volunteering and community participation.

The MPPS priorities are: Building Capacity, Foster an ecosytem, Knowledge sharing and evaluation, Community Leadership programming, Community Grants programming, Building resilience, and Communication, promotion and celebration.

Every day, people in our community are participating in ways big and small to make a difference.

There is no single way to volunteer or participate. There are traditional volunteering methods where individuals hold a formal voluntary role with an organisation that delivers services to the community. There are also more informal ways to volunteer and contribute, such as regularly caring for a friend’s child, or supporting a cause by reposting a social media message.

The experience of contributing to the common good and helping others is linked to better health and wellbeing outcomes.

It is Council's role to invest in participatory action, to build connections and trust, and encourage collaboration.
