BID grants now open
Published on 06 July 2020
Maribyrnong City Council’s Business Improvement District (BID) grant program has opened for application. The BID grant program is now in its fifth year and provides funding to support the growth and development of our activity centres.
In response to COVID-19, the eligibility criteria has been expanded for trader associations and groups of five or more businesses, who can apply for up to $50,000 for destination marketing and group strengthening initiatives. Previous examples of successful projects include the development of a short film, a pop-up small business showcase and the creation of a directory for local wedding suppliers.
Furthermore, in 2020 there is a new stream of funding for individual businesses. They are invited to apply for a micro-grant of up to $1,500 for new business development activities, such as trying a new product or service, enhancing online sales capability, undertaking market research or up-skilling staff. The micro-grants will be awarded in two rounds, in September 2020 and March 2021.
The BID grant program is highly competitive and all applicants should read the guidelines and have a preliminary discussion with a Council officer regarding their proposed project. Applications close on 7 August and funding will be awarded by the Enterprise Maribyrnong Special Committee at their next meeting on 1 September.
