The arts are thriving here in the City of Maribyrnong. Amongst the myriad of creative spaces and programs, is the Bluestone Church Arts Space in Footscray that plays host to an array of artistic programs throughout the year, ranging from dance performances, to film screenings, theatrical seasons and musical performances.

Council is currently accepting applications for the Bluestone Church Arts Space Creative Development Program for 2018 and we want to hear from artists in every corner of the city to continue to support the incredible creative talent here in Maribyrnong.

The Creative Development Program is open to performers, artists and thinkers seeking a large space to foster ideas, develop their arts practice, and create new work. The focus of this Program is to offer creatives a safe and inviting space where they can experiment, take risks and explore ideas, and be innovative when creating new works.

Being such an iconic venue valued by our community, the uniqueness of the former Wesleyan Church really shines through due to the range of performances and events that the space holds. Past events that have been featured at the Bluestone Church Arts Space include the World Premiere of a new reimagined Sherlock Holmes adventure A Scandal in the Weimar, and the venue also featured as part of the inaugural Due West Festival program. This month, our community can check out a range of performances as part of the Fringe Westside program.

The Bluestone Church Arts Space provides local artists and performers with a unique, multi use open space that tells the story of our city’s history. Built in the mid 1800s, the space was formerly a Wesleyan Church and was a hub of activity for the community. Now transformed into a dedicated arts and performance facility, the space offers our local community a diverse range of creative arts opportunities through its versatile, inspiring space.

We are currently seeking applications for the 2018 Bluestone Church Arts Space Creative Development program. Applications close at 5pm on 27 September. Application forms are now available.

Word from the Mayor, Cr Catherine Cumming

The Bluestone Church Arts Space offers a unique opportunity for artists and performers to utilise a versatile space to enhance not only their artistic portfolio, but also build their reputation amongst the local community.

We love to see a historic space, such as the Bluestone Church, utilised at every opportunity and giving our artists the chance to develop, learn and perfect their craft is something our Council really values.
