Green Screening To Support A Greener Maribyrnong

Published on 25 May 2022

Council is looking to the silver screen to support greater understanding of the climate emergency among the Maribyrnong community.

This July, it will be hosting its first ever Green Screens movie day at The Sun Theatre in Yarraville, as part of a wide ranging education program identified in the Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP) to address the climate emergency that Council formally acknowledged in 2019.

The (CEAP) adopted in April 2022 focuses on what Council can do around emissions reduction, advocacy and working with the community to transition to zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

40 double passes will be made available for the private Green screening of the documentary 2040 by Australian Director and film maker, Damon Gameau, on Wednesday July 6 from 1:45pm to 4:00pm (second week of winter school holidays).

It illustrates what the future could look like if we simply embrace the best of what exists today, shining a light on the impacts of a changing climate while also offering solutions.

Residents keen to attend will be asked to submit their vision for a greener City to go into the draw to win one of the double passes. Visions can be shared as paintings, drawings, digital art or written responses, including poems.

Successful entries will also receive a small complementary popcorn and drink to enjoy at the screening.

Submissions for the Green Screens movie day close on Monday 20 June.

More information about the screening and submission requirements can be found on the Sustainability Learnings Portal

Message from the Mayor, Cr Anthony Tran

The Green Screens movie day is a chance to come together and further educate our community about the effects of the climate emergency. We know the people of Maribyrnong have an appetite to learn more about the impacts and solutions, and we want to ensure we do this in an informative and engaging way.

We are excited to see the submissions from our residents. Whether it be a painting, drawing or written expression, we can’t wait to see your vision for a greener Maribyrnong.
