Join the Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee

The Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC), Council’s official advisory group for young people, is currently looking for new members.

MYAC has been operating since 2002 and is vital link between Council and its young people, guiding on issues and youth affairs. Individuals aged between 12 to 25 years who live, work, study or access services in Maribyrnong and are available to dedicate their time to represent the voice of other young people are encouraged to apply.

Current MYAC member Terry joined the committee as he thought it would be a great opportunity to get involved in the community and to grow leadership and communication skills.

“We try to tackle local issues with a youth perspective and are often asked to consult on local government projects. It is nice to be able to meet other like-minded people who are also keen to volunteer and show commitment to their community,” Terry said.

“If you want to make a difference, there is a lot of options for you out there, more than you can possibly imagine. All you have to do is get started in one thing and before you know it, you will be building the connections and having people recommending you opportunities,” Terry continued.

MYAC was established to strengthen relations with young members of the community and to help Council develop and implement relevant and engaging initiatives for the youth of the community.

The primary role of MYAC is to consult with other young people about the topics important to them and aims to advocate towards decision-makers and communities to make the voice of young people heard and to make improvements in these areas through better policies, services, and campaigns.

Applications are open until 15 March 2020.
