Midsumma Westside is back for 2020!
Published on 23 December 2019
Midsumma Festival is Australia’s premier queer arts and cultural festival. It brings together a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences. In the west we’ll be celebrating Midsumma Westside, a partnership between Midsumma Festival and the councils of the west.
Midsumma Westside will see four local government areas throughout Melbourne's west host 16 separate events. These include Venus in Thorns, an artistic performance exploring queer concepts such as binary notions of heaven and hell. Pride of Footscray Bar will host D.R.A.G, a performance that will blur the line between drag performance and art exhibition. Statement and (an) Archive of Yearning, will focus on how an object can become the focus of desire as well as use of a police report to document a violent homophobic crime. Or get dancing on the Westgay dancefloor where you will be a part of one of the best queer parties in the west.
Whether you celebrate with new or old friends, just make sure you GO WEST this Midsumma!

A word from the Mayor, Cr Sarah Carter:
We are thrilled to be hosting Midsumma Westside again this year. The festival is such a great reflection of the creativity within our LGBTIQA+ community and we’re proud to give our support.
