Virtual tour of Footscray Town Hall - Open House Melbourne 2021

Open House Melbourne returns with an opportunity to take a look behind closed doors and appreciate the heritage value of the Footscray Town Hall.

Former City of Maribyrnong Mayor, Bill Horrocks and wife Heather, will share their knowledge of this historic landmark as they take viewers on a pre-recorded virtual tour of the impressive Romanesque style building.

Originally built in 1936 the Town Hall has been extended over several stages, with the last construction works completed in June 1984. Today, it is still home to the Mayor, Councillors and Council staff including Customer Service.

“As Mayor of the City of Maribyrnong, I have the great pleasure of working out of the iconic Town Hall,” said Mayor Michael Clarke.

“This building has a rich history of serving the local community from when it was built in the 1930’s to the present day serving as Court House, Post Office and continuously as the Municipal offices. Bill and Heather have remained great admirers of this building and their knowledge of its history is second to none,” Mayor Clarke continued.  

“We are also currently planning to take the Town Hall into its next chapter, with a view to redeveloping the site to provide more opportunities for our community to utilise this much treasured space and ensure the building’s longevity for decades to come,” Mayor Clarke added. “We’ll be engaging with our community on this legacy project in the coming months.”

The pre-recorded tour will be shared to the City of Maribyrnong Facebook during the Open House Melbourne weekend, 10am Saturday 24 July.
