The inner west will shine bright this month as West Projections Festival hits the streets, with over 30 light installations across 36 locations.

A popular event in the Festival City calendar, the Festival has now expanded beyond Footscray to include the villages of Seddon and West Footscray and will feature over 25 artists.

Abandoned shopfronts, supermarkets, bars and restaurants, art spaces, laneways, Victoria University campuses, and train stations are just some of the locations that will be transformed by large-scale projections, sound installations, animation, performances and virtual reality.

Chantal Wynter, the producer of West Projections, is looking forward to the fifth year of presenting the Festival.

“West Projections Festival started as a humble series of projections in Footscray to highlight the artists and creative spaces in the West. Thanks to the support of community, this festival has grown exponentially including artists, artist spaces and businesses accompanied by an exciting program,” Chantal said.

With a public program of events offered alongside the self-guided tour of the projection sites, there is plenty of activities for people of all ages.

Some of the program highlights include an installation and celebration at specialty store Post Industrial Design in West Footscray, a series of curated walks with artist talks, and the return of the kids disco at Kindred Studios with the addition of a ‘drive-in’ theatre interactive experience.

The Festival will be officially launched in Nicholson Street Mall on Friday 17 August from 6 – 9pm with a pop-up dance floor, food trucks, live music, and a series of impressive projections.
