9 days. 14 venues. Over 60 bands

The City of Maribyrnong is excited to welcome the return of our beloved winter warmer series of live music events with the third instalment of West Set – a nine-day music festival taking over the inner west this June.

Footscray’s unique venue density makes it the perfect location to host the festival, which will this year showcase over 60 diverse acts across 14 venues, all within walking distance of one another.

From Thursday 10 June - Sunday 20 June, West Set boasts a program that's nearly all free and includes family friendly shows and panel discussions with something for everyone to enjoy. For tickets to the opening night, the full program and more information visit westsetfestival.com

West Set is thrilled to support the recovery of live music and local traders with proceedings to kick off at this year’s Festival Club and best kept secret in the west, Baby Snakes – a cosy new European rooftop bar just a hop skip and a jump from Footscray Train Station.

Other venues featured in the program include the newest member of the Cherry Bar and Yah Yah’s family, Hotel Westwood which will host West Set’s Opening Night with headliner Angie McMahon and Maple Glider, plus Yarraville’s acclaimed creative hub, cafe, bar and bandroom, Kindred Studios. Barkly Street hotspots Sloth Bar, Littlefoot, Jambo, The Cheeky Pint and Small French Bar will also join the program, while Corner 90, Pride of Our Footscray and Footscray Hotel will warm up the other end of Hopkins Street.

From the team behind Fitzroy’s Builders Arms comes westside watering hole Victoria Hotel, and rounding out the impressive list of West Set venues in 2021 is Hyde Street’s stunning Bluestone Church, and underground beat specialists Counterweight Vinyl.

As for the lineup, expect to catch performances from acclaimed singer songwriter Angie McMahon, hip hop MC and producer Joelistics, prolific new-wave outfit Black Cab, Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal and Badu Island songbird Kee’ahn, trans woman and electro pop artist June Jones, Sudanese-Australian rapper Queen P aka P-UniQue, indie rock and alt folk artist Jess Ribeiro, cherished Afro-funk supergroup Cool Out Sun, and a whole stack more.

West Set’s culturally diverse lineup covers everything from hip hop, alt country, glam rock, grunge, Irish fiddle, Gypsy swing, jazz, folk, pop, post punk, blues, rock, traditional African drumming and contemporary music.

For students, artists, industry folk and fans alike, West Set will also host a free Professional Development Panel discussing the future of music, staying informed and relevant as an artist, and keeping check of your mental health.

The panel will feature N’fa Jones (Cool Out Sun - independent artist), Freya Josephine Hollick (independent artist), Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt (Merpire), Sweetie Zamora (Head of Labels & Promotions - Remote Control Records), James Young (Venue Owner - Yah Yahs, Hotel Westwood, Cherry Bar), DJ Berkay Mete (Local DJ and Producer) and Moderator, Zoë Radas (JB HIFI - Stack Magazine Editor), taking place Saturday 19 June at Kindred Studios.

Bringing the magic of live music back to the west this June, West Set has something to warm even the coldest of nights, so be sure to check out their full program and plan your winter trip out west today.

Maribyrnong City Council Mayor, Cr Michael Clarke said:

“The live music scene here in the west is alive and well. Musical talent is at the forefront of our thriving calendar of festivals that gets people in the City of Maribyrnong out and about – even in the cold winter months. Nothing proves this more than the bumper line up featured in our West Set 2021 Festival. You’ll be spoilt for choice with over 60 events on offer across nine days, nearly all of them free and open for the whole community to enjoy. I encourage you all to rug up and get out there and support our local venues and enjoy all that this brilliant festival has to offer.”

Love Shack Studios Director and Audio Engineer + Edith Lane and Tender Buttons,  Jessicca Bennett said:

“As a Footscray resident of 10+ years, I am thrilled to be performing with my bands Edith Lane and Tender Buttons as part of this year's West Set Festival.
