Community Gardens

Community gardens are places where people can relax, learn, garden and get together with friends.

There are several community gardens in Maribyrnong. Each garden is different. Some have barbeques or pizza ovens, picnic tables, shelters, raised beds, individual or communal garden plots.

All the gardens are friendly places where newcomers are welcome.

Yarraville Community Garden (YCG) is at McNish Reserve. The YCG is a meeting place for all local residents to not only share their produce and gardening tips but also to socialise with each other. Western Urban Harvest Swap Meet is held at 10am, on the 1st Sat of each month (except Jan). Please bring along home grown and home made goodies to swap and share. All welcome.
Braybrook Commons Community Garden Adjacent to Skinner Reserve and Community Centre Churchill Avenue, Braybrook To become involved contact the Braybrook Commons Community Garden Working Group: bccgardens@gmail.com The Braybrook Commons Community Garden offers a shared community space for locals to come together and grow and share produce. The Garden has individual plots and some communal beds with a small annual membership fee. It includes composting, an outdoor kitchen and an orchard.

People are welcome to plant and work in the garden and take produce home. The space is also available for private bookings.

Maidstone garden has raised communal beds, a pizza oven and good access for people with disabilities. People are welcome to plant and work in the garden and take home produce.
Maribyrnong Edible Garden (MEG) Hortense St Maribyrnong, on the old bowling green behind the Raleigh Rd Activity Centre MEG committee can be emailed on megcommittee@gmail.com MEG has individual plots, for which members pay an annual fee, and shared garden areas including an outdoor kitchen, orchard and citrus grove.

This garden provides space for Karen and Chin refugees from the Westgate community and clients from ANNECTO to grow fresh vegetables. If you’d like to get involved, volunteers are welcome.

This garden is for all residents of Braybrook and Maidstone. Situated behind the Braybrook and Maidstone Neighbourhood Association, it has raised, accessible shared garden beds and a sheltered area. Workshops are held regularly, please contact the neighbourhood house for details.
