Support Services and Parenting Programs

We offer a number of support services and parenting programs to support both parents as they transition into parenthood.  Speak to your Maternal and Child Health Nurse if you would like further information on any of the below programs.

A number of agencies can provide specialist advice and support for any parent experiencing difficulties in transitioning to parenthood.  If you would like further information on some of these agencies please visit our Other Support Services page.


New Parent Group

All new parents will be invited by their nurse to attend the six sessions of New Parent Group when their baby is aged between 4 and 12 weeks.

This six session program is designed specifically to support new parents.

Infant CPR/First Aid

Learn basic lifesaving skills and how to cope with everyday illness and injury.

This is a must for new parents that want to be prepared in the event of an illness or everyday injury.

Starting Solid Foods

Designed for parents with children aged 4 to 7 months these sessions provide parents with insightful information on the safe way to transition babies to solid foods.

Participants in these sessions will be able to confidently transition baby to solid foods.

Baby Makes 3

The Baby Makes 3 sessions provide support to both parents as they transition into parenthood.

This series is three weeks in duration with one session per week. Each session is two hours so you won't be overwhelmed with information all on the one night.

Participants leave each session with practical and useful information about being a new parent.

Baby Makes 3

Breastfeeding Support

If you have opted to breastfeed your new baby but have questions you would like answered, speak to your Maternal and Child Health Nurse.

We can go through all the options available to you and our Nurses can provide you with a referral to see one of our lactation consultants free of charge.

Please note that our lactation consultants are only available at our Maidstone and Yarraville centres.
