Hyde Street Kindergarten
The State Government announced funding to be allocated towards a new integrated early learning centre to be built adjoining the Footscray City Primary School as part of the Footscray Learning Precinct in 2020. The centre will help cater for the growing demand for early years and education services by providing local families with kindergarten and maternal and child health services in a co-located facility.
Due to the construction of this new facility, Hyde Street Kindergarten will become unavailable to families in 2020. It is anticipated the new early learning centre will open in 2021.
As such, we are advising families who have Hyde Street Kindergarten noted as a preference in 2020 to ensure they select alternate kindergartens. Families who have registered or wish to register for 2021 onwards for Hyde Street will be kept up to date with the progress of the proposed early learning centre. We also remind families it is recommended that you choose four preferences when you register your child for three and/or four year old kindergarten, in case your first preference is unavailable.

Kindergarten, long day childcare and 3-year-old programs provide a strong foundation for your child's learning and development.
They improve language and help children learn through play-based programs that foster your child's social, emotional, physical and cognitive needs.
They help your child adapt to new people, situations and environments, and set them on a path of learning for life.
Step 1. What you need to know before registering
You can register your child for community managed long day childcare, 3-year-old programs and 4-year-old kindergarten through our Central Registration System (CRS).
Every child and family has different needs. Visit your preferred long day childcare centres and/or kindergartens and talk to staff before you register.
We recommend you select up to four different childcare and/or kindergarten services for the best opportunity to be offered a place.
You need to complete a separate registration for each child, but can register your child for multiple services as part of the same application.
Please note: children attending a 3-year old program will not automatically be offered a placement for four-year old kindergarten in the same service.
We do not manage registrations for private long day childcare and kindergarten services.
