Sustainable Living

Council's Sustainable Living program is designed to empower our community to live more sustainably, so that we can build a healthier environment for current and future generations.

As part of the program, Council hosts free sustainability events and workshops on many topics - from improving energy efficiency and reducing power bills, to avoiding waste and supporting nature in our day to day lives.

Follow the links below to learn more about upcoming Sustainable Living events taking place online and across the municipality, as well as recent news updates. There is something to interest everyone!

Sustainable Living Events

This August 2021, we have a series of free workshops to help residents reduce food waste, protect our climate, and save money at the same time!

These workshops have been designed as a series - to give you all of the tips, tricks and know-how to reduce food waste and save money.

We recommend coming to all of them if you can, however if you can only attend one, the final workshop will provide a great overview of all of the content.

1. How to plan and shop smart to avoid food waste

Saturday 7 August from 10am (online webinar)

2. Smart storage hacks to reduce food waste and protect your pantry

Wednesday 11 August from 10am (online webinar)

3. Smart and savvy recipes to reduce food waste

Wednesday 18 August from 10am at Braybrook Community Hub

4. Do you love food but hate waste?

Saturday 28 August from 10am (online webinar)

Biodiversity Workshop Series

We have created a six-part Biodiversity Workshop Series that highlight our gorgeous Maribyrnong River as a wonderful environmental resource in our municipality, and outline some of the easy steps everyone can take to protect it.

These videos are a great way to learn more about the biodiversity in the City of Maribyrnong and have been created in collaboration with Wild Action, an environmental activation organisation led by TV Zoologist, Chris Humphrey.
