Bandmates is a program that matches volunteers with people over 18 with disability or mental health issues, to go out to live music. Often people with disability and/or mental health issues are unable to attend live music unless they are with parents or support workers. This project creates solid foundations that facilitate social access, build community connections and enhance wellbeing through accessing popular and independent arts and culture.
Due to the overwhelming success of the pilot phase of Bandmates, we have reached our quota of Volunteers and Bandmates.
Please get in touch if you would like to be added to our mailing list and stay tuned for the next round of the project opening in November 2017.
Open Your Eyes Disability Awareness Training – 6 September 2017
As part of this program, we are offering specialist industry development disability awareness training to venue owners, managers, staff and security to create everyone’s experience out as inclusive and enjoyable.
The industry development training is delivered by our partner Arts Access Victoria.
The training, ‘Open Your Eyes’ is a creative and challenging disability awareness training that ‘lifts the lid’ on disability inclusion in a way that is contemporary, bold and practical.
Drawing on extensive expertise in the Arts sector, Open Your Eyes explores disability awareness in a provocative way that connects powerfully with participants.
The program includes defining disability and understanding its social context, understanding the barriers to participation and how inclusion can ‘open doors’ for all. The program will equip you for action with practical strategies, tools and resources and leave you confident about the change you can make at your workplace.
Past participants of the training have included a range of prolific music venues in Melbourne such as the Corner Hotel, Northcote Social Club, Loop Project Space & Bar, The Drunken Poet, The Night Heron and Library at the Dock.
