In 2002 Council established the Disability Advisory Committee (DAC) to guide its decision making for people with a disability.

Council created the Disability Advisory Committee to make sure that Maribyrnong is a community that all people can access.

Membership

The Maribyrnong City Council Mayor is the Chair of the Disability Advisory Committee. The other members come from three community groups:

  • people with a disability,
  • carers of people with a disability and
  • representatives from disability service providers/organisations.

One term for the Disability Advisory Committee is 2 years. This means that the Disability Advisory Committee is updated every 2 years.

You can be on the Disability Advisory Committee for 4 years in a row.

After that, Council will find someone else to be on the Committee instead. This is to make sure that Council gets to hear from lots of people in the disability community.

When Council is looking for new members of the Disability advisory Committee, they will advertise in local print media and on Council's website and social media.
