The City of Maribyrnong is located within the traditional lands of the Kulin Nation. Maribyrnong City Council’s recently endorsed Arts and Culture Strategy 2018-2023 makes a commitment to profile and celebrate the arts and culture of our Indigenous community through Theme 1: First Peoples first

The First Nations Creative Projects Initiative is designed to give professional Indigenous artists the opportunity to lead the creation and development of a new work anywhere in the municipality.

This Initiative is open to individual creative practitioners, collectives and/or organisations towards the costs of a new work in any artform created by artists who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and live, work, study or have a deep connection to the City of Maribyrnong.
