Art collection

Our community has a rich history and we place a high value on preserving relevant cultural, heritage and artistic materials. We manage a vast Art Collection, which includes over 500 paintings, photographs, crafts, ceramics, sculptures, monuments and works on paper. The Collection documents our culture, history, environment and people and is located across many of Council’s buildings and facilities including Footscray Town Hall.

The collection contributes to the celebration and documentation of our cultural identity and creates a sense of belonging by reflecting, documenting and preserving innovative, contemporary and historical artworks and artifacts. It fosters an understanding, enjoyment and appreciation of the visual and public arts, engages with the widest possible audience and supports the creative economy within the local art community and contemporary art practice.
