Dangerous Deeds Exhibition

Dangerous Deeds was a screen-based arts installation exhibited at VU @ Metro West in 2016 presenting a ‘snapshot’ of the Victorian disability movement. It showcased unique perspectives on disability culture and insights into aspects of Victoria’s cultural history that are not well known. Dangerous Deeds records issues of importance to our cultural history at a time when the biggest social policy change in 30 years is about to be implemented: the NDIS.

The NDIS will impact on the lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians; it intends to dramatically change the ways in which people with disabilities are included in all aspects of society. The Dangerous Deeds project was a partnership between SARU (Self Advocacy Resource Unit), DnD (Diversity and Disability) and stART Community Art Inc. Funding for initial development was provided by the Australia Council for the Arts, Creative Victoria, the Disability Services Commissioner and the Office of Disability. 41 people with disabilities, either individually or as part of a group, worked in collaboration with stART Community artists.

The exhibition was fully accessible with all information captioned, audio described, text read and provided in Braille.
