Queen's Baton Relay Commonwealth Games 2018
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) is all set to be staged from 4-15 April 2018 with more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 Commonwealth nations and territories sharing in the excitement.
In the meantime, the Queen's Baton Relay continues to make its way around all Australian States and Territories. On Saturday 10 February, the eyes of the Commonwealth were on Footscray as the Baton made its way through our municipality's cultural heart, the Footscray CBD. It began its local leg at our beloved Whitten Oval, coming all the way down busy Barkly St, under the Little Saigon welcome arch and to its purpose built stage at the Byron St Plaza.
On stage at the Community Celebration in the Little Saigon Precinct we heard from 23 primary school children from St Margaret's Primary School choir and 6 Caroline Chisholm Catholic College students who make up their R & B ensemble. Our local acts warmed up the crowd with their amazing talents to welcome the Queen's Baton to our city before Melbourne alternative rock trio, 8 Kingswood amped up the party.
Community nominated Batonbearers carried the Baton for our municipality which included Braybrook Secondary College student Linh Khong who started our leg of the relay. Victoria University student volunteers also got involved by creating the corridor for the Baton in its final steps towards the stage.
If you missed the action here are some highlights from the day.
