Join us for an evening with Melbourne writer Jim McIntyre in conversation with his publisher Jen Hutchison. Jim’s debut novel, Nikolai the Perfect, was runner-up (to Jane Harper’s The Dry) in the 2015 Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Unpublished Manuscript. It would be a further five years after this prestigious award that Journeys to Words Publishing published his novel.

Set in Moscow, Melbourne, and the Dandenong Ranges, his complex novel is a family saga, exploring the fractured relationship between father and son, man and wife, of devastating loss, upheaval, secrets and forbearance set within a Russian backdrop. His distinctive writing style is arresting and has been endorsed by award-winning author Bram Presser, who describes it as ‘striking in its lyrical beauty…a truly marvellous novel’. Hear Jim speak about the writing process, and working tirelessly with Jen to polish it to the point of publication.
