Why Youth Voice Matters Event
You are invited to attend the Why Youth Voice Matters event on Wednesday 30 September at 11am-12.30pm.
It’s easy for the political agenda to overlook young people. It is often identified by young people that they feel unrepresented and undervalued in relation to matters that affect them. Giving young people a voice in schools, a program, service development, or policy making empowers them and makes them feel like they belong, they are valued, and their contributions matter.
Effective youth participation isn't a new concept. It's a topic of conversation widely circulating the youth services field. But why does youth voice matter and what are some ways that you could make your service a more inclusive, forward thinking, participatory workplace?
Join us to listen to five young guest speakers discuss these very questions, share their experiences navigating the system, the challenges and roadblocks they have faced in effective and meaningful youth participation, and suggestions and recommendations on how to improve your practice and how we can work together to identify solutions to prominent youth issues.
Join us if you want to hear about intersectionality, the challenges of growing up in a rural area, the importance of lived-experience expertise, experiences of working professionally in the workplace from a young age, the importance of funding towards creative arts and providing creative engagement strategies, and how a young person’s passion for co-design has led them to starting their own consultancy business.
This event is open to young people and workers. Let’s rally together and draw attention to the need of improved and innovative youth participation practice and co-design.
