Youth Counselling and Support

Have you ever felt like something is bothering you but you’re not really sure what it is, but you know it doesn’t feel right or good?

Make an appointment to see our youth counsellor and see if we can work it out together.

What is Counselling?

It can be whatever you need it to be - a place to talk, explore how you’re feeling, a place to escape or even a place to just learn how to relax and destress.

It is mostly a confidential space and it’s there to help you stay on track or get back on track with your life. What confidentiality means is described at the end of this page.

Who is it for?

If you are 12 – 25 years old and live, work or study in Maribyrnong City Council then we can help. By the way, Maribyrnong City Council is a big place and includes the suburbs of, Braybrook, Footscray, Kingsville, Maidstone, Maribyrnong, Seddon. Tottenham and Yarraville.

What do I need to do to make an appointment?

Just give us a call on 9091 4700 and ask to speak to our counsellor or you could call them directly on 9091 4707 and ask for Christopher - by the way he prefers the name Chris.

You can be seen at The Phoenix Youth Hub in Footscray, at your local school (by arrangement) or even the Braybrook Community Hub.

If you prefer you could test the waters and email Chris some questions first, after all asking someone for help and advice isn’t easy for some people.

What if I want to refer someone?

If you have spoken to the young person about support options and they have shown interest in our service you can contact us on their behalf and speak to our counsellor or request that our counsellor contact you to complete a referral and make an appointment.

Confidentiality, what does it mean?

What you talk about with your counsellor is private between you and them and is not shared with anyone unless you give them written permission to share or your counsellor is concerned that:

• You are being hurt by others
• You are hurting yourself
• You are hurting someone else

If your counsellor is worried about your safety, they will always talk with you before contacting others.
