Maribyrnong Libraries Strategic Plan 2026-30

On Tuesday 9 December 2025, Council endorsed the Maribyrnong Libraries Strategic Plan 2026-30.

At the heart of any thriving community is a place where curiosity is welcomed, knowledge is shared and people are supported to grow. Libraries are more than books, they reflect the hopes, stories and aspirations of the communities they serve.

The new Maribyrnong Libraries Strategic Plan sets out our direction for the next four years and our commitment to delivering libraries for a creative and connected community, the vision that guides our work across all branches and services.

Community engagement was central to developing the Library Strategic Plan. Over four weeks in July 2025, almost 700 contributions were received through online feedback, in-person events, email, and conversations with librarians. A further five community sessions were held in October 2025.

Feedback showed strong support for programs that build social connection and provide inclusive, multicultural and First Nations offerings, along with clear interest in access to technology and equipment for making and creating. Engagement also highlighted an opportunity to reach time-poor adults who are not currently using the library, many of whom were unaware of the full range of services available.

The Strategic Plan sets out three goals to deliver libraries for a creative and connected community:

Become a place where all community members feel like they belong

When our community members feel like they belong, they are more likely to visit, take part in programs, and see the library as a safe and supportive place to learn, share and grow.

Be a trusted partner, connecting our community to information, resources and each other

When people feel supported by the library, they are more likely to get involved and feel part of the community.

Create compelling experiences that inspire creativity, learning and discovery

When people feel inspired, they are more likely to explore, learn and take positive action in their lives and community.
