Child Safe Standards
In Victoria, all organisations that provide services or facilities to children and young people under the age of 18 must comply with the Child Safe Standards. These standards aim to protect children and young people from all forms of abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional, psychological abuse, and neglect.

Maribyrnong Youth's Statement of Commitment to Child Safety
Maribyrnong City Council has zero tolerance for any form of child abuse. We are committed, in accordance with the Child Safe Standards to:
- Preventing abuse by identifying, reducing, and managing risks to children and young people
- Responding promptly and appropriately to all allegations, disclosures, and concerns of abuse, in line with our policies and procedures
- Complying with all legal obligations, including mandatory reporting to Victoria Police and/or Child Protection
- Ensuring accountability by requiring all employees, volunteers, and contractors to uphold child safety responsibilities

Inclusion and diversity
We celebrate diversity and are committed to the cultural, emotional, and physical safety of all children and young people. We actively support the inclusion and participation of children and young people who may experience additional barriers, including those who identify as:
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
- From refugee or migrant backgrounds
- LGBTIQA+ and/or gender diverse
- Living with a disability
Reporting concerns
All staff and representatives of Maribyrnong City Council share responsibility for protecting children and young people and for reporting any concerns about their safety.
