About MYAC
The Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) is the City of Maribyrnong’s official youth advisory group, operating since 2002. MYAC represents the voices of young people aged 15–25 who live, study, work or recreate in Maribyrnong, and provides advice to Maribyrnong City Council on issues that affect young people.
Supported by Maribyrnong Youth Services, MYAC members meet regularly with Council staff and Councillors to share ideas, raise concerns and help shape local policies, services and initiatives.
What MYAC does
MYAC’s core role is to:
- Consult with young people about issues that matter to them.
- Advocate for improvements in policy, services and community initiatives.
- Represent youth voices in consultations that impact local programs and strategies.
MYAC activities include:
- Contributing to Council policies and strategies affecting young people
- Leading and participating in youth-led consultations and advocacy projects
- Developing and leading youth forums and events on emerging issues among young people in the community
- Work alongside peers and community partners to shape local initiatives
- Accessing training in leadership, advocacy, public speaking and media skills.
How MYAC works
- MYAC meets fortnightly on Wednesday evenings (5.30-7pm) in Footscray.
- Meetings include discussions about current projects, planning new initiatives and connecting with Council representatives.
Participation also includes opportunities for training and skill development in leadership, advocacy, media, public speaking and more.
Who can join
Each year, the committee is open to young people aged 15-25 who live, study, work or recreate in Maribyrnong. Members should be keen to represent other young people, develop their skills and commit to regular meetings and activities.
Applications are open from December 2026 – January 2027.
