This committee is made up of 15 young people aged between 15 and 25 years who are passionate about being young leaders in the Maribyrnong community.

Role of the Committee

The Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee (MYAC) acts as a consultative and communicative link between Maribyrnong City Council and young people.

Members provide Council with advice and recommendations on issues that affect young people locally. The group acts as a central point for youth issues at a Council level and also hosts and supports projects such as the Maribyrnong Youth Forum.

MYAC has provided advice that has resulted in significant gains in making Council and the municipality of Maribyrnong more youth friendly.

Membership

MYAC members come from different backgrounds and experiences, from various local high schools, community and youth agencies, education, training, employment and sporting groups.

Meet and greet

MYAC meets on the first Tuesday of every month.

Members get a chance to meet amazing leaders, politicians and organisations that are doing incredible work within the community, such as Headspace, Foundation for Young Australians (FYA), Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) and more.

Training

Throughout the year there are many training opportunities to develop as an upcoming leader. These include public speaking, how to consult a community, how to run an effective campaign and many more.
