Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee
The Maribyrnong Youth Advisory Committee (the Committee) comprises of 15 young people aged between 15 and 25 years of age who are passionate about being young leaders in their communities.
Role of the Committee
The Committee acts in an advisory capacity providing Council with valuable information and advice on the issues young people are faced with in their daily lives. This advice is critical for Council when considering policies that affect young people right around the City of Maribyrnong.
The Committee gives young people a voice at a Council level, and more broadly at a local government level, and plays a key role in the holding of the annual Maribyrnong Youth Forum.
The Committee membership is represented by young people from different backgrounds and experiences, from various local secondary schools, community and youth agencies, as well as education, training, employment and sporting groups.
Meet and greet
The Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month with the first meeting for 2018 taking place on Tuesday 13 March 2018.
Members get a chance to meet amazing leaders, politicians and organisations that are doing incredible work within the community, such as Headspace, Foundation for Young Australians and Youth Affairs Council of Victoria just to name a few.
Throughout the year there are many training opportunities for you to develop your skills as a young leader in your local community. These include public speaking, how to consult a community, how to run an effective campaign and many more so keep an eye out for key dates and more information on our website.
