Maribyrnong Young Artist Exhibition Terms and Conditions

Eligibility

All artwork submissions to the 2025 Maribyrnong Young Artist Exhibition must adhere to following conditions to be eligible:

  • Created by young people aged 12-25 years old with a connection to the City of Maribyrnong
  • Created during the year 2025
  • Must be original work by the artist. Any entries considered to be works of plagiarism will not be accepted
  • Must not be generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Must not depict violence, discrimination, sexually explicit or otherwise be deemed inappropriate.

All applicants must agree to the conditions of entry as set out below.

Conditions of Entry

1.    Submissions

  • All submissions for the Maribyrnong Youth Artist Exhibition need to complete the online Application form.
  • Young people can submit a maximum of 2 artworks to the exhibition through one form
  • A photo or video of artwork (or work in progress) will need to be clearly sent to phoenix@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au (including the name of the artist in the subject line) with the Application form to be eligible
  • All submissions must be received by 5pm on Friday 7 November to be considered
  • Artworks will be selected and artists notified on by Friday 14 November

2.    Selection

  • All eligible Expression of Interest forms and photos/videos will be reviewed by a selection panel determined by Maribyrnong Youth Services
  • The decision of the selection panel is final
  • Artworks will be selected and artists notified by Friday 14 November
  • Selection criteria includes:
    • Artist’s connection to the City of Maribyrnong
    • Presentation
    • Originality and creativity

3. Use and rights of artwork

  • By submitting an entry, all entrants grant Maribyrnong City Council a fee-free, transferable licence to use their entry for any purpose relating to Council’s functions, including by publishing their entry on Council’s print and social media
  • If an entry contains another individual’s personal information (including their image) or another person’s work, it is the entrant’s responsibility to seek consent from those individuals.  Entries may be disqualified if it is discovered that an individual has not consented to their person information or work being included.

3. Exhibition launch and viewing

  • The Maribyrnong Youth Artist Exhibition will be launched on Friday 28 November at Phoenix Youth Centre, 72 Buckley Street Footscray.  Invitations to attend launch will be sent to all artists, with them able to bring family and friends along.
  • After the launch the exhibition will be open for viewing at Phoenix Youth Centre from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm throughout December 2025.

4.    Exhibition Installation/ De-installation

  • All selected artwork for the exhibition must be dropped off at Phoenix Youth Centre for set up no later than 4.30pm Monday 17 November
  • Exhibition will be installed by staff and contractors employed by Maribyrnong City Council
  • Instruction on the exhibition and appropriate display of artwork by the artist will be considered and followed as best possible. 
  • Phoenix Youth Centre will not take any responsibility for damage done to artwork on display in the Phoenix Gallery
  • Maribyrnong Youth Services staff will arrange with artists for the pick-up of artwork after the end of exhibition in January 2026.
