Bluestone Church Arts Space & Artsbox

Maribyrnong City Council seeks Expressions of Interest from artists, performers and writers for creative residencies at Footscray’s Artsbox and Bluestone Church Arts Space in 2017.

The Bluestone Church Arts Space was originally known as the Wesleyan Church. Built in the late 1800s, the Church has long served as a social gathering place and contributed towards Footscray’s civic precinct. Now a Maribyrnong City Council facility, the church is a dedicated arts and cultural venue and continues the legacy of being a place where community come together.

Offering a large open floor space with wooden floors totaling 251 square meters (including storage areas and amenities), the Bluestone Church Arts Space has been described by past users as versatile, unique and creatively inspiring. It can accommodate 80 people seated or 100 people standing, and features:

  • Small internal kitchen with oven, hot water system, three-door under bench fridge, taps and water
  • Ticket booth
  • Toilets
  • Wall-mounted electric heaters
  • Limited number of chairs and trestle tables
  • Portable theatre blacks
  • PA System available for hire

Booking and Enquiry Procedure

If you are interested in hiring the Bluestone Church Arts Space, contact the Arts Officer at:

Please include information about what your event or activity involves, how you would like to use the space, what date/s and time/s you are interested in, and the number of people that will be attending (or an estimate).

The Arts Officer will advise the availability of the Bluestone Church Arts Space and if dates are agreed upon, the hirer completes a booking form and signs an agreement, providing it to the Customer Service desk at Town Hall with their payment.

Bookings are only confirmed once the payment has been made and the form is completed and returned to Council.

Inspections of the building are welcome!
