The City of Maribyrnong has a vibrant arts and creative industries sector. It is home to a significant artist population, and contains a broad array of arts organisations and creative sector businesses. It is also home to a culturally rich and diverse community that is eager to participate in and engage with the arts. The Arts and Culture Snapshot is a quick guide which highlights some of the data available including what types of art our community participate in and what they think about art in general.
Australians are active participants in the arts. According to the data 84% of people aged 15+ from Melbourne’s west attended an arts or cultural event. Across Victoria, 57% attended live music, 49% attended visual art, 45% attended theatre or festivals, and 33% attended dance. A majority of Australians (73%) also believe that art makes for a richer, more meaningful life and that art positively impacts childhood development.
