Creative Places is a pilot program by Maribyrnong City Council that aims to transform under-utilised commercial spaces in the Footscray Central Business District into dynamic, vibrant and accessible creative spaces.

This program, supported by investment from the Victorian Government’s Creative Neighbourhoods Partnerships Pilot Program, will foster community involvement, stimulate economic revitalisation, and address the need for affordable venues for the local creative community. The pilot program will span from 10 December 2024 to 31 March 2025 with programs in the VU Connectivity Centre extended through to 30 May 2025.

Congratulations to the following artists and creative businesses occupying co-working spaces as part of the Maribyrnong Creative Places Pilot Program.

Tony Luo

Tony Luo is an emerging leader with an interest in youth engagement and sustainable urban and economic development and is currently a Schwarzman Scholar for the class of 2025-2026.

Tony is committed to driving social impact and empowering others to shape sustainable, livable and connected communities across Australia and worldwide.

While in the Creative Places Co-Working Space, Tony will develop youth capability coaching services for young professionals, undertaking planning, product development and creative business development.

Frankie McNair

Frankie McNair is an award-winning comedian, actor and screen writer based in Footscray. Her past achievements include winning “Best Newcomer” at the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and follow up comedy show "An Intimate Evening with Tabitha Booth,” as well as a suite of TV appearances.

Frankie will be using the space to edit a mockumentary series with director Brodie Rocca, as well as for writing and note-taking for their 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) show with creative partner Isaac Haigh. Frankie will also work on marketing campaigns and create assets for their creative work.

Amanda Loschiavo

Amanda Loschiavo of Melbourne Fashion Lab, supports emerging designers and startup fashion labels, by bridging the gap for creatives seeking guidance in an often opaque industry. Their services include fabric sourcing, sample creation, online consultations, and connecting clients to resources.

During the Creative Places Pilot, Amanda will focus on providing key support services to the fashion sector, as well as fostering relationships with local designers, businesses, and community groups. She will also develop new creative workshops and programs that empower others to explore fashion design and sewing.

Keira Maloney

Keira Maloney, of Keira Nicole Photography (and also trading as The Salon Photographer) is a Western suburbs photographer whose work captures real, heartfelt moments and authentic connections.

While in the Creative Places Co-Working Space, Keira will be focused on photo editing and administrative work for her photography business, while also driving business initiatives and fostering relationships with other creatives.

Na Djinang Circus

Na Djinang Circus is a self-determined First Nations arts company. They create and present contemporary circus works with a modern Cultural lens. With a holistic view of supporting young First Nations voices, Na Djinang's development program Making Tracks provides opportunities for First Nations youth to learn circus performance, as well as other creative and administrative aspects of producing and touring a show. During the Creative Places Pilot, Na Djinang Circus will be producing touring shows, developing and delivering artist development programs, and building relationships with other organisations.

Sleepless Footscray Festival

Sleepless Footscray Festival is a community arts festival charity organisation focussed on using art as a tool for activating disused commercial buildings and unconventional public spaces in Footscray.Held annually across the first two weeks of May, Sleepless brings together a vibrant mix of art installations, music events, film screenings, theatre performances and creative workshops to celebrate the Footscray community and showcase the area’s creative talents. From May 2nd-18th, Footscray is transformed to become an all hours playground of fun and festivities for everyone to enjoy. During the Creative Places Pilot, they will use the co-working space for board meetings, festival planning sessions, client liaison, sponsorship proposal meetings and other general administrative tasks.
