Access All Areas: making your community facility accessible

This event is part of a program of events for International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPwD) 2025.

Arts organisations, creative businesses and community groups are invited to a conversational workshop that explores how you can make your facility more accessible.

Attendees will learn how to increase accessibility in practical and cultural ways, and will be provided with a take-home audit tool covering accessibility in:

Entering and leaving your facility
All ability use of your facility
Navigating your facility
Signage and interaction in your facility
Sensory accessibility in your facility
Staff, volunteers and systems in your facility
Inclusive creativity in your facility

This educational and inspiring session will also spotlight a local success story in inclusive arts practice. The event will conclude with networking and light refreshments.

Access provision information

Wheelchair accessible venue with disabled parking spots and accessible bathroom.
Lower lighting can be implemented.
All exercises discussed verbally will also be provided in a written format.
Auslan interpretation can be provided. (Please get in touch as soon as possible to request an interpreter so that our providers are able to confirm the booking.)
This activity is presented in person with mask-wearing encouraged.

Other information

For International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) 2024, members of Maribyrnong's Disability Advisory Committee were invited to share their thoughts on being an ally. Then they were photographed for an exhibition that shared their perspectives. These photos have been on display at Yarraville Seniors Citizen Centre, Bendigo Community Bank Seddon, and Maidstone Community Centre over the last year. During the week of IDPwD 2025, this photographic exhibition will be displayed at the Bluestone Church Arts Space between Monday 1 December to Friday 5 December.
