Slow Colour, Community and Well-Being is a project with Vietnamese-Australian textile artist, Phong Chi Lai of Studio PCL. The project invites the Braybrook and wider Maribyrnong community to connect and engage with each other and their green spaces, and to uncover the hidden potential of plants.

During March and April 2025, community members learnt natural dyeing, expressive mending and patchwork sewing from Phong, with these skills contributing to a collaboratively created patchwork banner that will act as a shared record of the Braybrook community and the natural surroundings.

Come along to Phong’s final workshops where you can contribute your ideas and creativity to the banner. Drop in the Braybrook Community Hub between 10am-12pm on Friday 23 May to participate in an informal discussion about what it means to live in Braybrook and the western suburbs of Melbourne. Community members will be able to share their ideas for a phrase or quote to be appliqued onto a collaboratively-made banner. You can vote on your favourite phrase and the most popular phrase will be selected.

Light refreshments provided. All members of the community are welcome, whether or not you have participated in previous workshops.

Please note:

  • In this session, attendees will contribute to the collaborative banner and will not take home a textile work.
  • All materials will be provided.
