A Hansom cab driver in Brunswick, 1907, believes that the invention of the car is an existential conspiracy against him to make his livelihood redundant. Over three days of technological dreams, visions from God, visits from the future, and public ridicule, he learns of the future awaiting him after the novel car becomes commonplace and the horse becomes a novelty.
HORSEPLAY oscillates between a narrative set in the early 1900s and autobiographical theatre about the author’s own car accident history, and their grief at being fundamentally replaced by the unbridled explosion of large language models.
