Women's Circus is thrilled to host Devika Bilmoria, a multi-disciplinary artist, for their first virtual masterclass exploring the intersections of digital art and movement. Part of an ongoing series of masterclasses in 2020 led by BIPOC artists. Physical isolation has accelerated our use, reliance, and entanglement with screen-based communication, distancing us from one another’s bodies. How can tactility and listening with movement-based exploration enhance shared intimacy and connection through screened platforms? From your home, this live on-line masterclass invites you to investigate tacit meaning-making and gestural embodiment through partner and group exchanges. The class develops from tactile listening techniques to elaborating on gestures with objects and will culminate in a collectively devised movement sequence. Suitable for both experienced and emerging artists.
PLEASE NOTE: As exchanging gestures visually is an important aspect of the class, participation requires showing your face, body and space. Please prepare for whatever makes you feel comfortable and ready to share yourself online.
Please bring your most favourite/interestingly shaped/textured object (clothing/chair/crockery/stone/trinket...anything you like from your house, large or small), notebook and pen, and it's helpful but not necessary to have a yoga mat handy.
Online Masterclasses are currently FREE and only available to Women's Circus members. To take this class become a member today. Membership starts from as little as $25 a year and also gives you unlimited free access to Women's Circus' online classes up until the end of September 2020!
