Water Safety Week at MAC
Published on 19 November 2025
Water safety is one of the most important aspects of MAC's Learn to Swim program, and we’re excited to be running a range of activities during Water Safety Week, 1–8 December.
Throughout the week, MAC’s teachers will work with students to develop practical skills that go beyond regular lessons, building confidence and preparing them for unexpected situations around water.
During classes there will be a range of fun activities designed to help strengthen their water safety awareness and rescue abilities.
These skills are essential for Australian families, especially as we head into the summer months.
Activities during the week include:
Reach rescue – Learning how to assist someone in trouble without entering the water. (All levels)
Toss and rescue challenge – Practising how to throw rescue items safely and accurately to assist a swimmer in need. (All levels)
Treading water – A core lifesaving skill that builds strength, stamina, and awareness. (All levels)
Clothing swim and float challenge – Experiencing what it feels like to swim and float while wearing clothes, simulating a real-life fall-in situation. (All levels)
Survival circuit – A station-based challenge focusing on endurance, survival strokes, and problem-solving. (Levels 4–10 and MACRAP only)
Boat tip – A fun, supervised activity teaching children what to do if they fall out of a boat, including how to stay calm and get to safety. (Preschool & Levels 1–3 only)
What to Bring
To ensure your child is prepared please bring the following to your swimming lesson during 1–8 December:
- Regular swimwear
- A lightweight set of clothes for the clothing swim activity (e.g. shorts/leggings, t-shirt – no jeans, hoodies, or heavy fabrics)
- Goggles (optional for some activities)
If you have any questions, please speak to our Learn to Swim support staff on pool deck.
