About the intensives

Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre is excited to offer Learn to Swim intensives during the first week of the upcoming school holidays at no extra cost for Learn to Swim members who are currently enrolled in LTS levels 1 - 10 and preschool levels 1 and 2.

Sessions are run daily between 9am - 12 noon between Monday 7 to Friday 18 July. All classes will all be stroke-specific and help students progress in the water.

Students can book into as many sessions as they like across the week to support their individual needs. The program considers that every student adapts differently to new instructors and teaching styles and that multiple sessions on the same stroke can help reinforce learning.

While this is offered at no extra cost, places are subject to availability so book in early to secure your spot. This program is currently only available to MAC members with an active Learn to Swim membership.

How many sessions should I book?

That’s entirely up to you. Every student adapts differently to new instructors and teaching styles. Multiple sessions may help reinforce learning however if you book in for multiple sessions and find that they have achieved the desired progress, you can cancel your booking for the remaining sessions.

How many students will be in each class?

Class sizes will follow the same student-to-teacher ratios as our standard Learn to Swim classes.

Which classes should I book in for?

Your child’s regular Learn to Swim teacher can recommend the most suitable stroke session based on their ability. Please note: if a student does not meet the session criteria, they may be moved to a more appropriate class (subject to availability) or may not be able to participate.

What will the class format be?

Each session will focus on refining a specific stroke. Our instructors will break down the stroke into drills to provide targeted feedback and corrective techniques. Classes run for 28 minutes with a 2 minute change over.

How do I know a student's level?

To find out what the student's current level is:

  1. login to the MAC Client Portal
  2. Select "Skills" from the navigation
  3. Select the student's name from the drop down

From here you will be able to see their current level under the "Activity History".

Will my child be able to level up during this time?

No. As the focus is on a single stroke, we won’t be assessing the full range of skills required for progression. Assessments will resume during regular Learn to Swim classes with their usual teacher.

Will my child have their regular swim teacher?

No. We believe having a different instructor offers a fresh perspective and can help identify areas for improvement.

Will the teacher change throughout the week?

Yes, teachers may vary based on availability. This is often beneficial, as different instructors can offer new insights to support your child’s learning.

Can adults attend these sessions?

Unfortunately, these sessions are not available for adults. However, we welcome your feedback and are always open to exploring future opportunities. You can provide feedback via mac@maribyrnong.vic.gov.au.

Will this program be offered again?

That will depend on a variety of factors including attendance, popularity, and the feedback we receive from families.

What time are the classes?

We are running a variety of class times throughout the week. Please login to the MAC Online Client Portal to view class times and book in your place.

What if I can't make a class?

Please provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel your booking, as we are expecting to have a waitlist. To cancel, log into the MAC Client Portal > My Bookings > Click the (–) icon.

Why is there limited sessions in week 2 of the program?

Due to demand, we have added a second week of classes for the most popular sessions. As places are limited, please ensure you cancel any bookings no longer needed.

Booking cancellation process

If you can't make a class, or would like to cancel your booking, please do so as early as possible to make the place available for another student. You can cancel your booking via the MAC Online Client Portal.
