LSV: Pool Lifeguard Update

Run by Life Saving Victoria, this is a Lifeguard Update course for people who already hold a Pool Lifeguard Certification. It will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. The course focus includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care.

Prerequisites

This course requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and sound swimming ability. It is recommended that candidates are 16 years or older in the calendar year they undertake the course.

Candidates must hold:

  • A current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment
  • A current Pool Lifeguard Statement of Attainment prior to attending.

What to bring

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Bring a pen, paper, drinks, and snacks
  • Swimwear and towels (wetsuit optional)

Health/Fitness

Course activities occur in shallow and deep water, and are quite strenuous. Candidates should have a reasonable level of health/fitness and a reasonable swimming ability.

Outcomes

Successful completion of this course will result in the issuance of the units of competency from Life Saving Victoria.

  • PUAEME001 Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003 Administer oxygen in an emergency 
  • SISCAQU007 Perform advanced water rescues
  • SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues
  • HLTAID011 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
  • SISCAQU006 Supervise clients in aquatic locations
