LSV: Pool Lifeguard Update

Run by Life Saving Victoria (LSV), this is a Lifeguard Certification Update (Course ID SISSS00133) course for people who already hold a LSV recognised Pool Lifeguard Certification. It will equip candidates with the skills and knowledge required to supervise swimming pool users. The course focus includes pool surveillance, scanning techniques, rescue skills, oxygen resuscitation and emergency care. 

Prerequisites

This course requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and sound swimming ability. It is recommended that candidates are 16 years or older in the calendar year they undertake the course.

Prior to attending candidates must hold:

• A current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Statement of Attainment
• A current Pool Lifeguard Statement of Attainment.

What to bring

• Comfortable clothing
• Bring a pen, paper, drinks, and snacks
• Swimwear and towels (wetsuit optional).

Health/Fitness

Course activities occur in shallow and deep water, and are quite strenuous. Candidates should have a reasonable level of health/fitness and a reasonable swimming ability.

Outcomes

Successful completion of this course will result in the issuing of the units of competency from LSV as follows:

• SISCAQU019 Supervise patron safety in aquatic locations
• SISCAQU020 Perform water rescues
• SISCAQU021 Perform complex water rescues
• SISCAQU022 Provide oxygen resuscitation and therapy in an aquatic environment
• HLTAID011 Provide first aid.
