Winter has officially arrived in Melbourne. While the mornings are crisp and the days are shorter, it’s still a great time to focus on your health and fitness. Here are some tips from MAC’s trainers to help you stay moving, motivated, and feeling good this June:

Warm up properly

Colder temperatures mean your muscles take longer to warm up. Spend 5-10 minutes doing dynamic movements like bodyweight squats, arm circles, or walking lunges before your workout to boost circulation and reduce your risk of injury.

Mix it up with indoor and outdoor options

Indoor workouts are great for staying warm, but don’t forget the benefits of training outdoors - especially on those crisp, sunny Melbourne days. Our new outdoor training area is ready to go. Bring your strength or circuit session outside to enjoy the fresh air, vitamin D, and a change of scenery. But stay indoors if it’s wet or too cold for your liking.

Hydrate, even in winter

It’s easy to forget water when you’re not sweating as much, but hydration is just as important in winter. Keep your water bottle handy and sip throughout the day - your joints, energy levels, and skin will thank you.

Set a winter goal

Short-term, season-specific goals help maintain motivation. Aim for three workouts a week, try two new classes this month, or work toward increasing your strength by the end of winter.

Small wins = big motivation.

Use exercise to beat the winter blues

Physical activity is one of the best ways to boost mood and energy during the colder, darker months. Even a quick 20-30 minute session can lift your spirits and support mental wellbeing.

Rug up post-workout

Avoid cooling down too quickly - have a dry hoodie or jacket ready after your session to prevent chills and support recovery.
