Late December 2017, Lifesaving Victoria conducted an Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment at MAC, and we are very excited to announce that we have received a 100% compliance score and a safety score of 98.19%. What does that mean you ask? Well it means we are one safest aquatic facilities in Victoria and have now been awarded with Safer Pool Awards from Lifesaving Victoria.
Risk management is an essential tool for the successful and continued operation of an aquatic or leisure facility. To this end, Royal Life Saving of Australia has introduced the Aquatic Facility Safety Assessment (AFSA), which provides an independent and comprehensive assessment of the operations of an aquatic facility and allows us to measure our performance against industry standards and expectations.
The AFSA provides recommendations for best practice for public safety, management and operation in aquatic facilities. In line with the Guidelines for Safe Pool Operation, Australian Standards and relevant State and Territory legislation, the areas the AFSA covers are general operations, emergency procedures, record keeping, first aid, plant room operations and chemicals, facility design, supervision, programming and specific aquatic areas such as wave pools, diving towers, sauna, steams.
While we are very proud of our recent achievement, at MAC we will continue to provide the highest level of safety and ensure we are operating utilising industry best practices at all times.
