Upcycled bag sewing workshop

Give old clothes a new life and turn them into something practical! in these hands-on 4 week sewing workshop, participants will learn how to transform unwanted clothing into a stylish, reusable upcycled bag.
Over four 2-hour sessions, you’ll work through the project step-by-step, including cutting and preparing fabric, creating and attaching the bag pieces, adding interfacing and lining, and putting everything together for a professional finish.
This workshop is suitable for participants with basic sewing knowledge and is not recommended for complete beginners.
What to bring
Please bring the following materials and sewing supplies:
- Old jeans – ideally 2 pairs, the bigger the better, and preferably different colours/shades
- Cotton fabric for lining – approximately 1 metre – this can be an old doona cover, sheet or leftover cotton fabric
- Fusible interfacing – approximately 1 metre, medium to firm
- Fabric scissors
- Pins and/or fabric clips
- Measuring tape
- Ruler
- Dressmaker’s pen or tailor’s chalk
- Unpicker/seam ripper
Please note: Non-stretch fabrics are best for this project.
