It's important to keep your pet's records up to date with Council.  This information can be vital if we need to reunite you with your pet in the chance your pet is found.

You can advise Council of a number of matters or request information via the Pet Registration Update form.

You can:

  • Apply for a concession (please note that only Pensioner, Veterans' Affairs or TPI concessions apply).
  • Advise that your pet has been desexed, registered with an applicable organisation, has been registered as a breeding pet, has been obedience trained or has moved out of the City of Maribyrnong.
  • Correct your pet’s microchip number, name, breed, sex or colour.
  • Advise that your pet has passed away.
  • Notify Council of a change of pet ownership.

You can also request a replacement tag or a copy of your pet's registration certificate.

Changing pet ownership

Notification of a change of ownership must be submitted to Council by the new pet owner. If you have taken ownership of a pet that is currently or was previously registered with Maribyrnong City Council under a different owner, you may update the ownership details on record by completing the pet registration update form.

You must provide details of the previous owner together with written or email confirmation authorising the transfer. This confirmation must include the previous owner’s name and address, the pet’s animal ID or tag number, microchip number, and a statement confirming that ownership of the pet has been transferred to you.

Central Animal Records

Once you have updated any details with us, you should also make sure the details are updated with Central Animal Records which is an accredited microchip registry. Having you pet's details updated with them can assist in the recovery of your pet if they go missing.
