Municipal Emergency Management Plan

To enable a coordinated approach to emergencies, Council facilitates the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (MEMPC). The MEMPC includes representations from agencies and services who play a role in emergency management and is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP).

The MEMP is the guiding document for prevention, response, and recovery from emergencies within the municipality.

During emergencies

Relief Centres may be established to offer essential short-term assistance, including:

  • up-to-date incident information
  • access to food and water and other relief support
  • psychosocial support and counselling

Recovery

Councils coordinate recovery at the local level. Recovery Centres are set up to provide access to support and services such as:

  • coordinating housing and essential utility restoration
  • mental health and well-being support
  • assisting in community rebuilding efforts
